LabourList Charlotte Nichols: Why I’m glad Corbyn came to the Jewdas Seder

Have any of the ‘good jews’ in @BoardofDeputies etc considered that maybe J-Corbz came to us because WE THROW THE BEST SEDERS? pic.twitter.com/xSuZJko9St

A noble comrade has sent this to us. Go forth and sticker it all over a neighbourhood near you! pic.twitter.com/yknintlUBT

We strictly reserve the word smear for describing what we do to cream cheese on our beigels, although we tend to spell it schmear

Thread: When I got involved in Jewdas four years ago, I had all but given up my Judaism. I felt excluded from the community I grew up in because of my views on Israel, and I was fed up of having to follow ‘I’m jewish’ with ‘but I’m not a Zionist’ in lefty groups...

Its members, from cantors to rabbis, come from all sorts of political backgrounds, and have built a vibrant, pluralist & accessible community that is a sanctuary for many Jews, excluded from other spaces by their politics, identity, or religiosity.

https://twitter.com/jessicaelgot/status/981087828934348800Galling to see non-Jewish Labour MPs weigh in and decide who is a good Jew and who isn't. This is not the way to solve antisemitism. This is not how we make the Jewish community feel welcome in our party. https://t.co/34Zq0NDE9A

Thread/ Pt1: Some thoughts on the Jewdas thing: Jews have always been a broad-church. To pretend otherwise is disingenuous. The foundation of Judaism is debating and questioning well, pretty much everything. That is a beautiful thing. May it never change.

Can non-Jewish people like Woodcock stop trying to paint a false dichotomy between the “mainstream Jewish community” and Jewdas? Many of us, like myself, are fully-paid up synagogue members and actively involved in the “mainstream community”. We just accept its limitations. https://t.co/IhaiIkM6Ie

Jeremy Corbyn participated fully in a Seder tonight that was over four hours long- completely engaged from start to end, including leading the blessing for Elijah’s cup. He was a welcome INVITED GUEST, how dare anyone try to spoil what was a really lovely evening.
